POLYESTER PLATE PHOTOLITOGRAPHY
(level II: Photographic images)
All participants must complete
level I- Introduction to Lithography prior to level II- Photolithography
The theoretical-practical course includes:
1) Eight (8) videos containing clear step-by step instructions of the process.
2) Two communications via e-mail. The first communication may be to clear out any doubts about the process. In the second email the participant can send photos of the plates and prints carried out during the course to receive the instructor’s feedback.
*COURSE CONTENTS
Polyester Plate Photolithography is one of the most advantageous processes for working with photographic images. The image is transferred directly to the plate without any UV exposure or harmful chemical treatment.
In this course we will focus on the creation of monochrome matrixes from photographic imaging, to reach a wider spectrum of the method’s possibilities.
The course emphasizes on how to edit the digital image in order to achieve a better printing of gray values. For the edition of the image, two possibilities will be developed:
a) Step-by-step edition with Adobe Photoshop. No prior experience with this program is required.
b) Step-by-step edition with a mobile application (an option if you do not have access to Adobe Photoshop).
Videos:
01 Introduction
02 The digital image
03 Digital image editing step by step
04 Editing the image with the cell phone
05 Transferring the image to the plate

*Frequently asked questions:
1) How do I get the supplies?
Polyester plates, being a cheap alternative to offset metal plates, have acquired a great distribution worldwide. At the beggining of the course we will provide some supplier’s websites to help the participant's acquisition of the materials.
2) What equipment do I need?
Polyester plates don’t require a lithographic press or any lithographic equipment. They can be printed on an etching press and even handprinted. Most of the materials and tools are those normally used in a printmaking studio.
